All About Kim Saunders
Kim Saunders (aka”Miss Kim”) began her relationship with Wilbur in 1993, as the parent of kindergartener Zack, followed five years later by her son Easton. Kim and her husband Blue Fier were active school volunteers, Blue especially with Great Books and Art Docent Programs, and the project he created, Famous Paintings on the Classroom Doors, and Kim with music in the classrooms.
One of Wilbur’s past Special Ed. teachers, Robin Coleman, knew of Kim’s many years as a preschool music teacher at other schools through her mother, a preschool director. She suggested that Kim offer her classes to all of the Wilbur teachers as a parent-donation program, and the rest is history.
Kim is a native Californian, raised in Orange County, and holds a B.A. in Linguistics from UC Santa Cruz, where she also completed a year of post-graduate work with the Music Dept., studying Music Composition and teaching ear-training classes to undergraduates. Her classical piano study began at age 8 which she continued through college. She began guitar lessons at 11, and became a full-time professional singer/guitarist after college for many years.
At present, Kim still performs occasionally at local venues, the best of course being many past Wilbur Unplugged Concerts! Kim received children’s music specialist training from Irene Bland at UCI, followed by her protégé Diana Landis and finally with Caren Glasser, creator of Makin’ Music Inc. Kim is the co-writer with Michael Carey Feldman of the Wilbur School Song, “We Are Wilbur, and has recorded two CD’s, “Peace In My Heart,” and “As Time Goes By.” “Miss Kim’s Music Program” is a weekly music program given to each classroom, generously funded by the Friends of Wilbur.
