About Our School

Wilbur Charter for Enriched Academics (Wilbur CEA), formerly known as Wilbur Avenue Elementary School, is an affiliated charter school within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Located in Tarzana in the western San Fernando Valley, Wilbur has proudly served students and families since 1959.

Wilbur CEA is committed to providing a rigorous, well-rounded education that prepares students for lifelong success. Our academic program emphasizes high achievement in literacy, mathematics, science, technology, and the arts. The integration of innovative technology and arts-based learning throughout the curriculum supports student engagement, creativity, and critical thinking.

Our commitment to academic excellence has been recognized beyond our campus. Wilbur Charter has been named to the Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll for two consecutive years, an achievement that recognizes high-performing schools that demonstrate exceptional academic success and student achievement. This distinction reflects the dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families working together to create a culture of excellence.

A key factor in our success is our collaborative governance structure. Teacher-led committees and the Governance Council work together to analyze student achievement data, identify areas of need, and make informed decisions that directly support student learning. Through ongoing review of curriculum, assessment data, and instructional practices, our school continuously strives to improve outcomes for all students.

Wilbur CEA fosters a welcoming and inclusive community where families from diverse backgrounds feel valued and supported. Our English Learner program helps students develop language proficiency and achieve academic success, while our Newcomers Club provides additional support for recently arrived students learning English. Our Resource Specialist Program (RSP) works collaboratively with general education teachers to ensure that students with diverse learning needs receive the support necessary to succeed.

Students identified as Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) learners participate in enrichment opportunities led by a charter-funded certificated teacher. These experiences encourage innovation, problem-solving, and creativity through activities such as engineering challenges, invention design, game creation, robotics, and coding.

At Wilbur, we recognize that strong attendance is essential to student success. We work closely with families to promote the importance of daily attendance and maintain open communication regarding student progress and school involvement. We also actively encourage parent participation through our Governance Council and charter committees, offering meeting times that accommodate a variety of schedules.

Technology remains a priority at Wilbur CEA. Students benefit from access to modern educational technology that enhances learning, collaboration, and digital literacy, helping prepare them for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.

As an affiliated charter school, Wilbur conducts an annual public lottery that allows students from outside our residential attendance boundaries the opportunity to attend. Since converting to charter status, Wilbur has consistently maintained strong enrollment and significant waitlists, reflecting the high demand for our educational programs.

Our goal is to preserve our strong neighborhood school foundation while expanding opportunities for students throughout the community. Through innovative instructional programs, dedicated educators, active family partnerships, and a commitment to continuous improvement, Wilbur Charter for Enriched Academics remains a vibrant center of learning dedicated to helping every child reach their fullest potential.
